Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Through childhood and adolescence, the body and mind go through many changes and it is during this crucial period of life that mental illness will often first come to attention.  Every young person is unique and, whether dealing with early signs of mild anxiety to the more complex behavioral challenges that can accompany severe mental illness, one-to-one personalized care is at the foundation of building a successful treatment. To help meet these unique challenges, Dr. Adare completed specialty fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Duke University Hospital where, in addition to treating the common psychiatric afflictions of the young, she focused on psychiatric care of the medically ill, including children with cancer, sickle cell disease, diabetes, autoimmune brain disorders, PANDAS, and transplants. Through these experiences, she developed a particular passion for the care of patients with ADHD, anxiety, and complex medical conditions.

Perinatal Psychiatry

The period around childbirth is one of the most physically and mentally stressful times in a woman’s life. For women who are thinking about conceiving, are pregnant, or who have recently given birth working with a physician who understands the complexities of this time can be a wonderful investment in one’s mental health. In addition to having experienced the joys and stresses of pregnancy and childbirth herself, Dr. Adare dedicated a year of fellowship training to new mothers and mothers-to-be who were experiencing a range of psychological changes ranging from depression to psychosis.

Adult Psychiatry

General mental wellness is the backbone of healthy living for all adults. After four years of medical school, Dr. Adare completed an additional six years of post-graduate specialty training in psychiatry throughout which she cared for a wide array of adult mental health illnesses. Through this, she gained extensive experience in helping patients with anxiety, depression, OCD, and psychotic disorders while using the latest advances in pharmacology. She also undertook a one-year training elective uniquely focused on mental health within the LGBTQ population while at Mount Sinai hospital in New York.
